The 1960s were a troubled decade for Türkiye, as a military junta staged a coup d'état and overthrew the government. Among those trialed and convicted was Ahmet Tevfik İleri, the Minister of Public Works, who was exiled to the isolated island of Yassıada in the Sea of Marmara. There, his only means of communication with the outside world and his family were letters, each of which could not exceed 50 words. This is his life story.
