Set in 1915 during World War I in Van, "The Ottoman Lieutenant" tells the story of American doctor Jude, who is disillusioned by injustices in his own country, and idealistic nurse Lillie, who, after meeting Jude, is compelled to travel to the Ottoman Empire with him. In Van, Lillie becomes close to an Ottoman officer named İsmail, finding herself torn between Jude and İsmail.
